Night Crawler

The nightcrawler was an assainment I had to to were I had to see how far I could go with a low poly model within the space provided. This is my model practise of nightcrawler, Showing a front and side view. I also have included some more interesting shots so the typology is nicely presented. I found this assianment pretty easy as typology was easy to muster up.

Sea Creature

I started off my concept of looking into abnormal type of marine creatures, and I found some images on manatys. I used the inspiration of being described as a sea cow and implemented my own marine creature. I came across with the idea of a sea pig, reasons that lead me to think that they are a type of creature not know to be mixed with under water. I also thought it could give an interesting concept towards the idea of a newly formed underwater mamal. I gave the creature more of a fat manaty look with lumpy fins. I would like to finish the creature by texturing and to re-light some of the scenes.

Update: I have managed to texture and create a final render for my underwater creature. I found the texturing very tedious and the rendering fairly difficult as I was trying create an under water effect which didn't go so well.

Minotaur!

This week my assianment was to create a minotaur, based on selection of videos we were sent to work from. I have produced most of the stages for the minotaur up on to the point of adding further detail. I found it pretty tricky to follow as most of the work was done in a fast pace and difficult to follow. Here is where I got to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsrKvnC0nIc.

Character Modelling

These are a few screenshots of my character modelling, they show progression and technique through the modelling process. Only problems I have at the moment is trying to get the face features correct because of trying to avoid trianglulation.

I then started to go into further detail with an image of myself to create my own avatar.

I put as much detail as possible whilst keeping within mind the fact that the model needs to have no triangles and contain only quads. I will bring this into Mudbox to further develop my model.

Cannons!

Mood board:

A selected mood board of images that inspire me to create my cannon for my project.

I firstly looked into more 'mecha' styled cannons involving a machine operating a cannon rather than being controlled as a single object by humans. I used this strategy to look into my style of cannon.

I then looked into the old 'civil war' cannons and engineering to get the feel of how the components may look and how then perform with the components. I also found some concept art that had inspired me on my creative influence to create a cannon/character.

Sketches and design process:

Modelling and stages:

When producing my character I didnt focus on the size of the components intill towards the end when I was putting it together. As the brief was on 'cannons' I decided to make an oversize cannon as apposed to a normal size, I feel as if the overexaggeration, even if its physically not possible to be held gives an interesting approach to representing the style of the concept. The style is looking more japanese styled with the oversized cannon on the mecha character.

During the process stages and towards the end I realised that my character was heading more towards the space marine 'warhammer' style.

The lighting and painting process: was such a stressful and painful experience as lighting and rendering the actual model was difficult to get right. I also struggled trying to get it the right quality render as it was difficult to find the settings. I attempted to create a 360 turn table which ended up not going anywhere as I had no knowledge of how to make a turntable. The painting was limited as the model almost made me scared to touch it as it was so perfectly adjusted to the right shapes and lighting I didn't think an inaccurate paint over would work well in the final render. I am fair about the finished results I believe I could improve if I had access to help and other forms of lighting and rendering in maya.
